The producers of the Fox drama Empire announced Friday that Jussie Smolletts character would not appear in the final two episodes of the shows fifth season. The announcement came a day after Chicago police arrested him and said he staged an attack against himself in a bid for publicity.
Following his arrest and release on bail, Mr. Smollett had returned to the set of Empire and started filming scenes as his character Jamal Lyon, raising questions of how Fox would handle his presence going forward.
While these allegations are very disturbing, we are placing our trust in the legal system as the process plays out, the producers said in a statement. We are also aware of the effects of this process on the cast and crew members who work on our show and to avoid further disruption on set, we have decided to remove the role of Jamal from the final two episodes of the season.

gets hit by a train
“Watch him still get paid for the last two episodes.”
Legally, Fox will pay him as required. But if he was making 100K per episode or $1.8 million a year; he’s about to lose far more. He had several years remaining on a contract. FBI charges/investigation on the terrorist letter and more spells big trouble.
He’s fooked.
I think the part of “Yorick” is a much more suitable role for him.
Doubtful, they will just remember not to do his mistakes.
Nailed it!!
I said days ago that this would happen. Smollet’s career was over, the moment he mailed that hate hoax letter to himself. Everything that has transpired since, has been nothing but an accelerant.
He was being paid $68,000 per episode x 18 episodes per year. That's $1.2 million dollars per year.
Yeah, Buck dat.
That is even more better than $0.00/episode. I have a sneaky suspicion that in the end, he/she/them/they will do just fine. Right or wrong. Mostly wrong though.
