Even cooler yet? You can make internet phone calls with it!
You must be the developer ...
I can’t wait to look into this, because I’ve been trying for the longest time to find a replacement for Google Voice. (I did drop Google search & Gmail.)
Thank you so very much for sharing this!
I’ve been using it for quite a while. As slick as ICQ was back in the day.
Viber is another similar choice.
It has the added advantage of being encrypted and is used worldwide.
I’ve been on a couple of telegram groups for the past year or two. Works great. The rest of the fam uses discord, so I have both on my phone.
Where does it send your private information to?
Unfortunately for me, this is an app-to-app messaging service.
In other words, your contacts must have Telegram also or you can’t connect with them.
With Google Voice, you just need someone’s number to text or call them and they even provide you a free phone number.
I’m not crazy about the fact that Telegram’s headquarters are in Dubai either, so it’s back to Google Voice.
Thanks anyway!

Sounds like LINE, yuge in Japan and Korea.
We have been using it with family for some time now.
bkmk
I use it all the time and it just works. My HONEST FORMER CNN journalist niece turned me on to it!
It would be handy if it would import your contacts rather than making you invite all of them to download the app.
I do not use 99.99% of the possible “Apps” on my cell phone. I only occasionally, very occasionally use the Firefox Internet browser, at that’s it.
This came up somewhere here on FreeRep earlier today:

You can very sure if political campaigns are aware of using these tracking methods that the entire personal data tracking database accumulator industry is doing it all the time as well.
When it comes to ANYTHING “free” on cell phones, YOU - your identity - are the commodity being sold, accumulated, bartered over, and used.
