The Monkees' surviving members Micky Dolenz and Mike Nesmith have commented on the death of fellow group member Peter Tork, who died Feb. 21. He was 77.
...
Boy does this all bring back memories...the start of the show where they kept getting Peter’s name wrong...that picture of him with a guitar on a boat made me cringe though. I brought my acoustic to the beach once, the humidity was so awful I swore I’d never do that again...that much humidity is not good for a guitar.
So many good songs though, and I just recorded a couple into mp3 format not long ago. I brought out our old Monkees albums.
Great hearing them again...I’m a Believer, Words, Your Auntie Grizelda, Last Train to Clarksville, Pleasant Valley Sunday, Papa Gene’s Blues, Valleri, Take A Giant Step, Sweet Young Thing...I’ve played a couple of their songs onstage over the years too.
Also, the Monkees TV show is on one of the satellite channels if you look for it, on the weekends, in the morning around 8AM or so. Usually 3 or 4 of them. I always thought it was a silly show but watched it every week just to hear the songs.
Never had a favorite Monkee I don’t think, unless maybe Mike, since I was a guitar player. Most people did though. Almost teared up reading Mike’s comments, Mike always did have a way with words and was a pretty thoughtful person.
RIP Peter...play on...
Yeah that wa my reaction when I heard the news too. Still he was older than I am but it really gets you when they are younger than you are.
LOL!!!!!!!
And their first album, “Beat the Meatles”.
damn... RIP
I’d pay good money to see the Septuagenarian Six,
Fab Four - heck, they have 1/3 more.
Oops, that’s 7, not 6. Guess they’ll have to throw in a bit of Neil Young. ;-)
“Words” - a very catchy song written by Tommy Boyce / Bobby Hart and superbly produced.
Good one!
If the internet were mine, I’d give it to you right now.
Thank you, thank you very much. I’ll be here all week. (rimshot)
