A car driven by Syracuse University men's basketball coach Jim Boeheim struck and killed a man on an interstate in central New York late Wednesday night, police said.
Jorge Jimenez, 51, was in a car with three others when the vehicle crashed into a guardrail on Interstate 690 near Thompson Road around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Syracuse police said.
Jimenez got out of his car and Boeheim, trying to avoid the damaged car, fatally struck Jimenez, who was later pronounced dead at a local hospital, police said.
Boeheim, 74, is cooperating with investigators and passed field sobriety tests, officials said.

There was also a glaze of ice covering everything.
That could explain it. I have to admit I’ve been in situations where i had to stop for accidents in weather like that, and my eye is always out for someone coming through the weather right at me.
Sobriety was 0.00 blood alcohol. He does not drink.
In Syracuse? In the winter?
The roads were icy. I would bet on that.
Now that I get the impression this was weather related, I see that what made this a national story was the notoriety of the driver. I suspect this sort of thing happens all the time in multi-car pileups. Heck, I’ve seen this happen in a lot of car crash youtube videos - follow up cars taking out people standing around outside the stopped cars.
Not a great way to bow out. He turned 74 last November.
I don't like to walk by the side of the road any more.
Climate change. Trump’s fault.
Inclement weather?
Tragic story. Raises a few questions: Was Jorge Jimenez an American citizen, a legal resident alien or in the country illegally? Same questions regarding the passengers in his car. If he was here illegally, this could have all been avoided had he not been in the USA illegally.
This happened to a friend of mine a year ago. Unfortunately he was on the receiving end. He survived with a traumatic brain injury and is unable to do anything but open his eyes.
Best advice on a freeway crash is to sit in the car.
i'd like to see ba results on the vic as well

I’m sorry about your friend.
Innocent to the bone but the natural guilt that follows will be awful...........
Had a coworker back in the 70's who backed over his neighbor's toddler and killed her. She was directly behind his car, out of sight from his position getting into the car and never appeared in any of the mirrors..........It was a tragic accident in every sense of the word but he never got over it in the few years that followed till he left the company......
Texting and driving. Take it to the bank.
