Actor William Shatner boldly went where no "Star Trek" captain has gone before when he took the stage for the first time for the Grand Ole Opry radio show to sing from his new album of country songs.
Shatner made his Opry debut on Friday night in Nashville, Tennessee, on the famed country music radio show along with Jeff Cook of the band Alabama. Together they released a country album called "Why Not Me," which features songs like "Beam Me Up," a nod to both whiskey maker Jim Beam and Shatner's catchphrase on the popular sci-fi TV show.

Remember the Mull’s Singing Convention with Reverend J. Basil Mull and Mrs. Mull???
That joke about Cas Walker is still told today...
J. Basil says “Cas Walker has the biggest and best meat in town!! Ain’t that right, Mrs. Mull?”
She says “Of Lordy, that’s right!!!”
Darn...too bad the series did not make. William Shatner made an excellent Archie Goodwin. That’s a series that would’ve been worth watching.
I read at Wiki that the time slot for the Nero Wolfe series was ultimately given to the (then) new “Hennessey” series, which I remember liking also.
You know Cas Walker did his own advertising commercials on the Farm and Home Hour...
He was doing an ad for his Railroad Salvage Store one morning and was holding an armful of blue jeans...
He looked straight at the camera and said, “We just got in a whole boxcar load of this junk here......Uhhhh, I don’t mean junk.....It’s really high quality stuff...Uhhh...Let’s have a little music, Danny!!!!” (speaking to Danny Bailey)
He was sometimes hilarious!!!!
“Believe it or not, but Shattner is pushing 90.”
That answers my question. I followed the link in Dr. Sivana’s comment above and realized Shatner did the Nero Wolfe pilot in 1959. I was 8 years old then and couldn’t figure out why Shatner looked like an “adult” even back then. Now I know. He’s like the Energizer Bunny.
I recently saw the Twilight Zone episode with William Shatner as the guy who sees the creature on the wing of an airplane....

Ben Folds came up with that idea of a Shatner/Jackson duet that was so messed up it works.
Here he is in a World of Warcraft commercial.

“Got to see the Opry as a really young kid.”
Me, too. In the 60’s, my parents took my brother and me (kicking and screaming) to the Grand Ol’ Opry at the old Ryman Auditorium. I’ll never forget Loretta Lynn performing “You Ain’t Woman Enough to Take My Man” — not once, but twice! My brother and I hated it at the time, but now, I realize it was an amazing experience.
“You sounded horrible, Bill.”
“Well, auto-tune can only do so much.”
The first live show I ever went to featured
Ernest Tubb and Kitty Wells. God, I still remember...
Total classic. One of, if not the, best episodes.
He also did one as a man and wife in a diner asking questions to a table game they gave vague answers like an 8 ball. Another good one.
The “Shat” stole the show as Big Giant Head on “Third Rock from the Sun”. It’s not easy to upstage John Lithgow. He was also awesome in the short-lived series “Sh#t My Father Says”.
Yep...I remember that one too....
Remember The Barbary Coast or something like that. He played a Wild Wild West type of character. Or I’m getting senile. Lol
