'Captain Marvel's' Brie Larson Can't Save Womankind — But She's Doing Her Best

[Snip]

This dance studio is where Larson comes to feel empowered — occasionally via the outstretching of jazz hands — and that means you can spare her any "you-go-girl" lines or confetti cannons full of condescension. Yes, she is playing the title role in the more than $150 million Captain Marvel, the 21st movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and first ever from the wildly successful Disney division to be fronted by a woman. But, three years after she won an Oscar for her performance in the indie drama Room, the 29-year-old actress is confident enough to reject your media narrative about box office stakes and the fate of women and blah blah blah because Larson has read this story before and she knows how it ends.

"There's this sense of setting this thing up," Larson says. "I know it's exciting and fun to be like, 'Will it sink or will it float?' 'What's going to happen?' 'Can women exist in the world?' 'We're not sure yet!' But women have been opening movies since the silent era. We have been part of every major art movement. People just push us away once the movement gains momentum and act like we were never really there."

“...paper route-coke bottle deposit-lawn mowing money...”

God love you, brother. Been there, done 2 of those 3 to make money. We all used to have so much in common. It made for a stronger country. The only strength in “diversity” is that sense of “team” or “community” or “brotherhood”, seeing so many different people pull together in the same direction.

Hahaha! Don’t think I’m criticizing. I contemplated doing it before Infinity War, at the encouragement of my boys. My younger one even sent me the following link to all past and known future movies:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvel_Cinematic_Universe

Infinity War was #19. I just couldn’t see taking the time to watch 18 movies (most of them I’d seen) in preparation for it. Not sure what my number would have been, but with maybe only 6 or so, I would have...

Captain Marvel will make #21.

Consider just how divisive the headline is...

WHO is she saving Womankind from?

Why, us Mens, that’s who.

So now we are—us men folk that is—the enemy of women.

This is straight out of Leftist doctrine: Divide and conquer. Pit subgroups of humans against other subgroups and ride the wave to power!

Continue throughout the march of history...

Memories.......

“Hi Mom, what’s that?”

“The Robertsons are moving. This is the Robertson brothers customer book. All the folks whose yards they mowed last summer, and the prices they charged. I told them you would take over.”

“But Mom - there were TWO brothers!”

“Maybe you need to find a partner. Come on, let’s to the Co-op before it closes, and we’ll get you a new push mower. I’ll pay half, and you can pay me back from your earnings.”

So much for lying around in the summertime...

You are certainly entitled to boycott it and urge others to do so - but to insinuate someone has an ulterior financial motive simply for making a prediction you happen not to like is ridiculous. (Makes me wonder if you are subject to paranoia.)

Have you ever heard "Methinks thou dost protest too much"?

What am I to think when someone on a conservative website not only runs completely contrary to the common grain on social justice warrior movies, but advocates it not once, not twice, but at least three times?

I find it odd and bizarre. One explanation that makes some sort of sense is financial incentive. This may not be correct, but it sounds more reasonable to me than some of the other alternatives.

Well, one reason my list may have been shorter is that we didn't watch any Iron Man movies. Tony Stark is my least favorite Avenger and I just don't care for an entire movie of him, or 3 entire movies of him. Also, I am not a big fan of the Ant Man series, although, I will admit that I have watched both movies and IMHO the Antman/Wasp movie was much better than the original. I think I watched it because I knew that it would be connected, somehow, to the Infinity War story. I had to wait til the little extra scene in the middle of the credits to get my connection. Also did not watch Spiderman.

So, those exemptions would bring my list down in number.

The only financial incentive I have in this movie is, if it does as well as I expect, it will help make more superhero movies. The Marvel movies have shown I imagined for decades while reading comics. I have a bunch. My collection is at worth five figures. I lost count at 20,000.

Ah, now your position makes sense. This increases the value and prestige of your collection.

I’m a comic book geek. I have been seen the late ‘50’s. I was with Marvel since day 1. I gave up comic books more than 20 yrs ago mostly because they let political correctness overwhelm their common sense.

I used to be. I used to have a massive comic book collection, but over the years I have lost it. I wasn't so much of a Marvel fan, but my brother was, and I acquired all the comics he bought. I was mostly a Superman fan, and I had many comics in the different iterations of the Superman series, such as "Action", "Justice League", "Superboy", etc.

But yes, comics went way over into crazy territory when they started chasing liberal ideas of "diversity."

I’m not interested in social justice warriors any more than you. And, in my opinion, it would be a huge mistake to make to allow that to take over their movies. There is risk associated with the Captain Marvel movie-and it is exactly what you said-they let social justice take over. Actually I expect it will happen. I’m paying attention, and those movies I will ignore.

I saw a trailer for it that is exactly nothing more than a Social Justice Warrior hate fest for White Christian Males, and of course we have the nasty commentary from Brie Larson already out there on video, so yes, it's pretty much a given that this is a Super Woymn power anti-male hate fest.

Meantime, I’m very glad to know that Marvel movies will soon have the rights to the Fantastic Four and X-Men franchises. There are can’t-miss stories to be told. l look forward to it.

I liked the previous reboot to the Fantastic Four with Ioan Gruffudd playing Reed Richards, and I liked the Silver Surfer sequel. I didn't think much of the effort to force diversity into it with that last movie, but I look forward to Marvel movies rebooting it again if they just leave the politics and "diversity" out of it.

Let us hope they focus on good story telling rather than attempting to "teach" us what they think are better morals.
