We were and are incredibly, perhaps uniquely, lucky that this man was born and lived in that place at that time. He and the other framers spoke and wrote often of providence but Washington himself may have been the purest and most consequential instance of providence in history.

This man could have chosen to become the Caesar of the new world. He certainly had no shortage of offers. Unlike 99% of politicians who followed him he deferred to the greater power and wisdom of the Almighty.

An interesting factoid here:

I was doing some research and found election results in Maryland for Washington's first term. He handily won the presidency. Sorta like when Ronald Reagan won all but 13 electoral votes.
