It was like watching an NFL exhibition game in the 4th quarter. Most of the gameplay was rather ordinary.
The San Diego team looked like they had tire tread up and down their uniforms which was appropriate for their OL which were run over most of the game.
The true highlight was when the Commanders got their first sack and the lineman absolutely splattered the quarterback - helmet flying one direction, ball flying another. THAT’s what we used to see from the NFL until it turned candy-assed and penalized teams for giving opponents an ouchie. I doubt it was intentional but that play and non-call announced to a lot of folks that this was FOOTBALL and not the pc-drenched NFL variety.
The audio for the game was awful, cutting out periodically which was okay because Tiki and Trent aren’t worth much.
The best quarterback on the field was Greg Ward Jr. who led Houston to a one-loss season and Peach Bowl victory over Florida State a couple of seasons ago. Ward was a converted WR who became a QB when Tom Herman ran out of passers. He’s probably too small to be a QB at the next level but he’s an amazing athlete who made some great catches.
The uniforms, overall, look ghastly. Very World Football League-ish.
Protecting QBs has changed football, to rule changes that curtail aggressiveness on defense, and this league is no different.
AAM rule: Defenses are limited to five pass-rushers on any given play, and they are not allowed to blitz players from the secondary.
