I can't recall if it was an actual acquaintance or on FR. But someone had taken a room in their basement and put sound absorbing tiles in it and turned into a shooting range.

Then they got the idea for longer distances. Dug a trench and put in a large diameter pipe in the backyard running horizontally - and ends up at the basement wall where they knocked a hole out. Ran a pulley system along the “roof” of the pipe to change out targets, and had lighting every so often in the roof of the pipe. Pretty clever.

That’s pretty good ingenuity. Imagine no range fees or driving somewhere to shoot. I presume there was ventilation to address lead and smoke issues.

I had a guy in a gun shop tell me once that he had a friend who put up bales of straw at one end of his living room and used that as a shooting range. I thought it was crazy for a number of reasons (sound / neighbors, straw isn’t a great backstop, etc), but he swore it was true. YMMV

That is a great idea.
