Former U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez was hospitalized this week for extremely high blood pressure and hypertension, spouse Soraida Gutierrez said in an emailed statement.
He is under the excellent medical care of doctors who are monitoring the situation closely, she wrote.
He was admitted to a Chicago hospital on Wednesday night. On Friday, a spokesperson said there were no updates.

Gutierrez was among a half-dozen Democrats who introduced articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump in November 2017.

Go Boom, Asshole!
That ain’t surprising. This guy is a hot head. Always seems like he’s about to pop.
My Christian upbringing requires me to love all Gods children, but not to accept their misguided nonsense. These SOBs are out to destroy us.
Unfortunately, I slowly drifted back to old ways of eating and the pounds started coming back. I never got back to square one but put more than half the pounds back on.
Now I'm on it for good. The benefits are real. Five weeks into it, I'm already feeling more energetic, I'm thinking a lot clearer and even my eyesight is improving (which was a pleasant surprise).
Basically I have fried eggs in the morning with some full-fat (low sugar) yogurt with frozen blueberries swirled in. Black coffee. For lunch, usually a tin of sardines and 24 raw almonds. Or I get a garden salad somewhere (with no dressing) and dump the sardines and almonds on top.
Dinner is usually meat ranging from steak to dark chicken (with skin on) to fish with some green vegetables like broccoli, brussel sprouts or asparagus (all of which is delicious raw as a snack).
Lots of water all day long. I go through at least five 16.9oz bottles of spring water. At end of day, I'll reward myself with two glasses of red wine (a bottle every two days), which is low on carbs.
Unfortunately beer is mostly out. I'll have a beer at a social event but don't have it at home anymore. Big change for me as I was used to having several beers out of the refrigerator every night. Now I just have wine in the house.
Cool, I’m maybe 15 pounds from an ideal weight at most, but need to get the BP down. Frankly, I’ve alaways eaten tons of food and never given it much thought. I mean a big dinner followed by three portions of dessert. My work keeps me active and have always had a good metabolism, but I’m interested to see if cutting the carbs and sugar will improve the BP.
Also, the two glasses of red wine is exactly what I have switched to.
But the study had one group they kept at systolic of 140. Another group they kept at 120 systolic. The interesting thing was that statistically, for all practical purposes, the number of cardiac events in both groups was essentially the same. There was no real benefit in lowering the systolic number.
Granted, I’m watching tv and had a glass of red wine, but tonight I started takining my blood pressure for the first time since starting the diet and its shocking. Nothing over 120/80 and I got a 104/59. Maybe I should start worring about low BP?
