It goes on every day, in every way, in every jurisdiction and industry in America. Business publications are filled with nothing but CEO's whining that the government "needs to do more for ME!" and local politicians stepping-up to offer them more taxpayer subsidy. We're all stressing over AOC, but in reality capitalism is already dead.

AOC is on the side of no tax reductions to entice Business.

It’s like what happens when companies move to Chicago. They have incentives, but those end and now the company pays through the nose to make the next company think it’s a “great deal.”

All involved are stupid. ADM and Caterpillar moved downstate world HQs to Chicago and the West Side respectively. The first, as I’ve heard, because the female CEO hated the clothing store choices in Decatur, Illinois.

May the Chamber of Commerce lobotomize itself in short order!

It’s you that needs an economics lesson. Those taxes would have been passed on to Amazon’s customers and increased costs. So now the consumer gets break. Free Republic where the consumer is king.

But those residents aren’t going to get a tax break from this deal. Their taxes are going to go up.

Thinking the same thing.

Well, as Maggie once said, ‘you eventually run out of other people’s money’.

I see mass exodus of businesses from NYC in the future and it aint gonna be to NJ.

And deprive the state and city of New York of hundreds of millions of tax dollars?

Who does Bezos think he is?

This is rich, NY progressives against progress. Who would have thunk it? I can’t bring myself to root for cronyism either though so maybe Bezos should relocate and let NYC continue to circle the drain. What a mess.

I’m not arguing that. And I’m sure that the local politicians in NYC, as with Chicago, could give a clinic on corruption. And as others have said, the voters put them there, so they’re the ones to blame.

So are their job opportunities and real estate values. Their taxes would not go up. Shaking down Amazon wasn't going to LOWER their taxes either.

You've done the analysis?

Under the deal, Amazon over time would still pay taxes, as will the new 25 thousand employees. That's better than if Amazon doesn't move to Queens, and NYC receives nothing in taxes from Amazon.

Post 40: “No one is against negotiating the best possible deal. People are against not having any input on a deal that will cost them millions, when they had no say in it, all to make up the ‘give aways’ that Cuomo and DeBlasio provided.”

Post 51: “...I’m sure that the local politicians in NYC, as with Chicago, could give a clinic on corruption. And as others have said, the voters put them there, so they’re the ones to blame.”

Are you saying that the voters should be upset with the deal since they have no input, or that they are to blame since they voted for the politicians, or both?

Over time, yes, they will pay taxes. And all the amazon folks will be paying sales taxes on all the goods that will be purchased. I get it. I understand that. And new stores, bars, restaurants, etc will open and neighborhoods will thrive and be reborn. I get it.

But, the money has to be made up by someone. And, initially it’ll be the folks that live there. LI City has changed dramatically over the years, as Manhattan and Brooklyn have gone ‘off the charts’ expensive. So the developers have been there for a while. It used to be a very industrial area, filled with warehouses, trucking companies and construction industry. It isn’t that much anymore.

But...and I’m about as far from AOC,Sanders,Harris, Booker,Warren as a human can get...I just don’t think any business should get anything like this. If they want to move to NYC, let ‘em. If moving there was based on a critical business need, move. Do what you have to do. That search went on for a year or more, if I’m not mistaken, and cities/towns all over the US were willing to bend over and take it raw. One city, east of Atlanta, was going to rename itself, Amazon. It kind of appeared to me that Bezos was liking seeing everyone willing to sell their firstborn for the building.

If being in NYC, across the river from Wall St and all it’s money, is the right place to have your place, find a building - buy it/sign a lease - and put out the help wanted sign. The taxpayer, insanely overburdened in NY as they are, shouldn’t have to cough up anymore because of Bezos.

The only surprise is why they considered it in the first place.

As their property rises in value, their property taxes are going to go with it. And the taxes in NY and NYC are disgusting. I grew up in a house not much different than the one Archie Bunker lived in. 40 foot x 100 foot lot....not even a 10th of an acre. When my mom finally moved, she was paying over $10k in taxes and that was the cheaper part of town. I know folks that are paying over $20k
