Meg is extremely faithful, a longtime friend tells PEOPLE in this weeks cover story. We pray a lot together...She has had, and especially has now, a very close relationship with God.
Meghan, 37, was baptized into the Church of England in a secret ceremony last spring ahead of her wedding to Prince Harry. And the intimate service, which was a significant nod to Harrys grandmother, Queen Elizabeths role as head of the Church of England, had special meaning for Meghan, as faith is a key pillar for her.
A deep sense of gratitude and humility has guided her, the friend continues. We can still be modern women...and be strong moms and strong wives but understand that our relationship with God is so critical.
Meghan has also grown close to the Archbishop Justin Welby, who not only conducted her baptism, but also officiated her wedding. Its her respect for the church that leads another close confidante to call rumors that Meghan insisted for St. Georges Chapel to be sprayed with air freshener ahead of the ceremony outrageous.
If people knew how spiritual she is and how serious and respectful she takes her relationship with Godshe would never ask for something like that...
The day after the wedding I said, You were so serene.
Shes like, Im there, Im with Harry, Im with you guys, and Im with the leader of my church. She doesnt think about the narrative: What will people think? She doesnt do that. She really lives in the current moment. And when you do that, theres no fear.
She and Harry are both very grounded. She has a firm understanding of the things she can and cant control. And she tries not to put any effort into the things she cant control.

...Megan is a perfect princess as is Kate, as well. Extraordinary women in an extraordinary time. They do the great Queen honors, as her granddaughters.
Amen Rita! Well put! And indeed I am not suggesting Duchess Meghan's politics are perfect, but she is not running for office! And her husband's military service and work on behalf of veterans cannot go unnoticed. (I believe the Duchess also travelled to visit with troops overseas before she even met Prince Harry.)
It's nice to see an American woman so beautifully rise to the occasion of becoming a princess and the institution of the monarchy endure without all the pre-1776 baggage. :)
Im not interested the royals. I have no respect for any American that do. Good men have their lives to rid us of their irk and such fawning by those who call themselves Americans is to me akin to Obama’s habit of bowing to Islamic despots and the disrespectful behavior of the NFL kneelers
what utter crap
the hell you say
+1
Can’t wait for Buckwheat Windsor...
Well, fortunately, you don’t have to deal with them.
Shes ProAbortion and AntiTrump......
Those two qualities does not make her lovely my eyes
Yes. As a public figure, Meghan sets a behavioral standard that is quite becoming of a lady, and makes behaving as one very attractive for young girls to immulate again (a state that sorely needs a come-back and to be in vogue again, imho.)
I never had heard of Meghan before Prince Harry, or of her unsurprising California politics, given her family background and her obvious exposure to nothing else but the prevailing decadence of Hollywood.
That she was evidently poorly served during her formative years keeps her slandered up, but, shes outta there, thankfully, and its nice to read a a hopeful story of her interest in the Christian faith, as practiced in the Church of England. (There could be worse news.)
Like the rest of us had to do, she too is growing up.
