Back when people were sane, we’d have thought it strange if parents let their son play with dolls and act effeminate, but we wouldn’t have intervened. Maybe a few raised eyebrows, you know?

“It is a G.I. Joe, and it’s not a doll, it’s an action figure.” Boy, they were crafty. Even when we had Joe banging Barbie we were being set up. We all knew Joe was a man and Ken was a swish. Still, playing with them got us to start sitting quietly at home instead of out terrorizing the neighborhood.
