I am too old to follow fashions, so piss on tehm if i use the polite terms I grew up with. Well, I'm a 65 year old 'negro'. I was also raised to be polite to everyone, and to never discriminate on the basis of race.
Perhaps you'll do a fellow old codger a favor and refrain from calling me a negro.
'Black' will do just fine, thanks, although I prefer 'American'.

It was Jesse Jackson who insisted that everyone use "BLACK" and then...he DEMANDED that we all use the term "AFRICAN AMERICAN", which is just dumb, since Egypt is also in Africa, Boers, from RSA, who come here and have kids have AFRICAN AMERICAN progeny, and on and on and on!
At least "BLACK" is the English translation of "NEGRO".
OTOH...AMERICAN is THE best term to call you, my FRiend!

My dad would refer to blacks as "colored" & he didn't have a racist bone in his body. It's my opinion that all this "word policing" nowadays is pretty ridiculous. With all due respect, why do young blacks refer to each as the "N" word, but it's almost thought to be criminal, shoukd anyone else utter that word White people don't go around calling each ither "Crackers," so why do blacks "N" with each other? Is it meant to be demeaning, offensive or endearing. Just curious. 😉
