In case you were interested in current temps in the upper Midwest, here are a few to consider...
Pembina ND (on the Canadian border) -25 air temp/-25 wind chill
Minneapolis MN -18 air temp/-38 wind chill
Sioux Falls SD -12 air temp/-27 wind chill
Mason City IA -19 air temp/-44 wind chill
Solon Springs WI (northwest WI) -17 air temp/-32 wind chill
Flyover country is 18 with -3 wind chill. Its cold enough.
We were at -34 F this morning. The good news is that it will be 60 degrees warmer Saturday!
Indianapolis -4, -13wc @1:45pm
I was just out. It has warmed up to 6 below here (Omaha, NE). Did not feel bad at all. No wind.
All K-12 schools closed, no mail delivery.
Forecast for Saturday is in the 40s.
Prayers up for all those who have to endure the cold.
I was watching a live camera feed from Des Moines Iowa at dusk
yesterday where the wind chill was about 20 below. People were walking around as if were just another winter day. One guy had short sleeves on.
Perform an experiment under these conditions: ambient temp 34, wind chill 28. Set a glass of water out there. Hint: it won't freeze.
But you're in Mexicommiefornia and we're not.
The cold is only temporary here.
50 F in Dallas.
This is climate change in the midwest, and I suspect swhat it is, is quite possibly the opening shots on the New Little Ice Age. Those who study sunspots have been telling us for a decade that is what is in store. If so this declination of the Polar Vortex will be an annual or two out of three years phenomenon of increasing severity and extent for many years to come.
“But you’re in Mexicommiefornia and we’re not. The cold is only temporary here.”
You win that round.
Around zero in Kansas City and they closed all the schools.
When I lived there, my dreams were for a car that would always start at -25 and that by end of February, the worst was over.
Gladly, my dreams have gotten bigger since I was in my 20’s.
It’s a mid west winter.
But if this cold hit New York City the crying and gnashing of teeth would be out of this world.
It was -13 this morning in Indianapolis. But this weekend it will be 60+.
By Monday, all of our roads will look like live fire bomb ranges.
Here are a few more...
Creston IA (southern IA) -8 air temp/-25 wind chill
Pipestone MN (southwest MN) -18 air temp/-18 wind chill
Tomah WI (west central WI) -16 air temp/-36 wind chill
Alderaan - wait, never mind...
Flag Island MN (near Canadian border) -25 air temp/-45 wind chill
IIRC the low temp last night (temp, not “wind chill”) in Fargo,ND was predicted to be -36F.The Canadian Weather Service predicts that the low temperature in Emerson,Manitoba (the first Canadian town you hit if you cross the border at the northern end of I-29) is gonna be -33F.
