Two members of the U.S. House of Representatives re-introduced a bill last week that would make malicious acts of animal cruelty a felony nationwide. A person convicted of the crime could face a fine or up to seven years in prison, or both.
The bill, known as the Preventing Animal Cruel and Torture (PACT) Act, is co-sponsored by Democrat Ted Deutch and Republican Vern Buchanan. PACT would criminalize "crushing, burning, drowning, suffocating and impaling animals." The measure would also address bestiality and other attempts to sexually exploit animals.
Deutch tweeted, "We will get this done. It's bipartisan, common-sense policy that will protect our animals."

Babies can be murdered but animals are protected!!!!!
If you're not responsible of your pets and they become my problem, then it becomes your problem.
They are you animal. You nor they have a right to destroy my property and my birds and animals.
So if I burned a snake to get it to leave an electrical panel, I lose all my guns and do time ?
Swat team at front door at 5:00 AM: “Your cat called us to complain about her food”
Seriously? Do we really need Famous But Incompetent special agents doing raids on farms at the behest of PETA.
Because that is what you will get for federalizing animal cruelty.
I prefer it remain a state/county issue, thanks.
I’m for it too, and so is my kitty. In my state, animals have some rights to the extent that people treat them well, but just 30 miles away in the next state, animals are treated miserably.
We are all God’s creatures.
So do the stupid snowflakes in the cities get to decide that all hunting, rifle and bow, as well as sport fishing are cruel to animals?
I don’t trust them for a second to not take away all hunting, fishing, and trapping in this country.
So my answer is not only NO, BUT HELL NO!!!!!
This is another big city liberal sucker play.
Does this mean I can’t fish from my aquarium anymore?
Good!
And that is the end of the discussion. Morally I am all for making animal cruelty a felony. But that’s the constitutional bailiwick of the states.
Kill your unborn human baby and get off scot free.
It gets even more insane
In New Jersey, two pro-abortion lawmakers, are planning to introduce bills to protect unborn cows from being slaughtered!
You might be on to something there. If we allow them this totally illegal usurpation of the constitution maybe we can turn it back on them over the killing of babies, might just work.
I anticipate strong pushback on this from Those We Must Not Offend.
I know where this is going: Owning a pet will eventually be considered animal cruelty. Guaranteed.
I think that this is something for general State Law, not federal over-reach.
Very outside the constitutional limits.
We are going to have leftist comfort animal clowns in California telling Kentucky bluegrass trainers how to train horses.
I love to see animals well treated. Jeff Flakes included. But we don’t need the feds getting into yet another area they don’t belong and want a one-size-fits all.
Sorry to strongly disagree with you — please reconsider.
I am too, but I am not for socialist libtard PETA-types becoming enforcers of it, because they will just warp the grounds to interfere with regular pet owners.
They dont even say pet owners in their twisted lingo. They want to do away with ownership when it is the sole reason for virtually all pets having better lives than they otherwise would have.
On the plus side this would give more power to go after hoarders who just get slaps on the wrist, damage other peoples houses, and move and go and do it all again.
Might be helpful.
