The three-year-old boy who was miraculously found safe and sound after he went missing for two days in North Carolina says he spent time with a bear while he was lost in the woods.
Casey Lynn Hathaway was found healthy and in 'good spirits' on Thursday after he went missing from his great-grandmother's backyard on Tuesday, launching a massive search party in Craven County.
The toddler, who is recuperating in hospital, told police and his parents he spent his two days in the woods hanging out with a bear.
'Casey is healthy, smiling, and talking. He said he hung out with a bear for two days God sent him a friend to keep him safe,' Casey's aunt Breanna Hathaway posted on Facebook on Thursday evening.
Craven County Sheriff Chip Hughes said that the child also told police he was with a bear in the time he was missing.
While he allegedly spent time in the company of a bear, nearly 600 volunteers, FBI, state officials, and divers combed the woods of eastern North Carolina for signs of the missing toddler.
Casey raised national alarm was he vanished from the backyard of his great-grandmother's home in Ernul, North Carolina on Tuesday. He was playing with his sister and his cousin and the family called police when the two children returned inside the home without him.
His great-grandmother and family members searched the woods behind her home for 45 minutes before she frantically called 911.
He was found on Thursday after searchers followed the sounds of his cries and found the child stuck in thorn bushes in Craven County, just a quarter mile from where he was last seen.
Authorities found the child after someone reported hearing 'Casey crying for his mother deep in the woods' around 9.30pm, according to WSOC.

I believe the mother said his absolute favorite kids show is about a girl and her friend bear.
I assume his mind conjured up something comforting for him to help deal with the stress.
I’ve seen black bear walking around in the Smokies when there’s 6-8 inches of snow...I was raised on a farm that our back edge of farm was the Nat’l Park border...
I do believe in prayer helping. I dont believe he was outside for two nights. And for the big dog possibility, has anyone in the area said their dog was outside for the two nights the child was missing? No, I dont have an answer. But what is law enforcement supposed to say? There is evidence the child was kidnapped and we are looking for a perpetrator? No. I am still leaning on the side of the family making the story up and wanting money, but I guess this story has been wrapped up all tidy with a bow and there will be no more discussion. The boy COULD HAVE been stuck in the brambles during the last night and then found, looking like he had been outside for one night in freezing temps and one night during a total downpour.
Agree.
Maybe he’s lying.
Who the hell believes a three-year-old kid?
It is a great book
When my grandson was three years old, on Thanksgiving day 2013 he was staring out the front window of his parents home in rural NW Florida, while dinner was being prepared. My daughter saw him and asked what he was so intently staring at.
“A bear in the front yard.” he calmly replied.
“Oh, yeah, right.” She sarcastically remarked, but went to the window and looked anyways.
There was a black bear in the front yard......................
Baloo!

Perhaps a Sasquatch?
One of my elderly friends slipped on the slope of her OWN backyard and ended up being “rescued” from a fall into the creek by clump of blackberry bushes. Her calls for help alerted a family member inside her house, but it took HOURS gor the fire department to get her free from the bushes.
A 3 year old could easily get “captured” by a clump of bramble bushes, and not set himself free without getting hurt very badly.
So, to me, the story does not really seem that fishy.
I wouldnt rule out Sasquatch, especially a female one.
I figured the parents weren't keeping an eye on the 3 year old. So they let him be supervised by other "children"...not smart.
It was a Bigfoot
If it was the Great Northwest, it might be, but not in North Carolina.................
In North Carolina?...............
NC has a Bigfoot or two. They even have a festival
I tromped all over the North Carolina woods and mountains when I was in the USMC.
The only ‘Bigfoot’ there was me...................
I think the Bigfoot in the East is called a Skunk Monster or something.
That would be me.......................
Freeper Kanawa had an encounter with a bear in 2006, and he killed it with a knife. See the link for his post about it.
