There are some pretty bad movies on that list. Strange days is creepy and poorly acted.

The Day The Earth Stood Still
World of the Worlds (original)
Both have religious undertones.

T-Zone’s To Serve Man

i maintain while it is a comedy Mars attacks is great because the dumb as leftist keep trying to negotiate with the aliens in spite being repeatedly killed.
Also in the sci-fi comedy realm is Galaxy Quest.

Have only seen Zardoz, Altered States, and Pi. Never heard of any of the others

Give me the old black and white sci fi. Pi was an interesting movie but most definitely not sci fi

” ‘Invasion of the Body Snatchers’ may well have been better in its original version before the studio interfered. … also had the opening and ending sequences … inserted to ensure a relatively ‘happy ending’. “

The studio revised version was closer to the original book. The producer and/or director had insisted on setting the ending where the aliens look like they are going to win (and in the terrible remake, have won). In the original story, the aliens, frustrated by the humans’s resistance (of which, we are told, the adventures of the protagonist were only a part), and having satisfied part of their goal by reproducing, take off and abandon Earth, leaving behind the humans they had taken over as mere mindless shells. Rumor has it that the studio ordered the changes and the opening and closing scenes which frame the film narrative, because they didn’t like the dark ending and thought audiences wouldn’t either. But it is possible that the author objected to the changes the screenwriter made as well. Some SF writers had more influence with the Hollywood establishment than others. I know that is hard to believe when you have to watch the butchered and botched versions of SF classics Like “Starship Troopers” and “Nightfall,” but it was true from time to time.

Primer is a movie that I understood after the first viewing.

After the second it confused the hell out of me.

A third and fourth convinced me that I was right the first time but since then... I’m stumped.

An absolutely brilliant film and made for a ridiculously micro budget.

Zardoz pretty much requires LSD or something similar to get it. Much of its symbolism is directly so evocative.

I didn’t get Zardoz at all.

I did. I, as a Sci-fi aficionado from the early Sixties, have imagined immortality (with help from Valentine Michael Smith).

Spoiler:

"Wizard of Oz"

Beguiling indeed! She had me completely roped in, too.

Well written, well acted, and the storyline was plausible.

If you’re that much of a sci-fi fan and haven’t yet seen it, you absolutely MUST see Steins;Gate.

2010 was a crap sandwich, with crap for fries and crap as the tea to wash it down with. Overrated, not underrated, by a LONG shot.

The book was no better, either
