My father was in a drug trial for something he was on, pre-trial.

He knew he got the fake stuff because he had to cut the tablet for a half dose, and it did not cut the way the real tablet cut.

Bingo! If taking a placebo, knowing it was a placebo worked, why not just "think" away the pain in the first place?
