The North Carolina 3-year-old who vanished from his grandmothers backyard earlier this week said he spent his two days in the woods with a friendly bear.
Casey Lynn Hathaway was found alive just before 9:30 p.m. Thursday, bringing an emergency two-day search for the missing toddler to a close. Rescue workers were following up on a tip about a crying child when they discovered Casey about 40 or 50 yards into a wooded area, tangled up in some brush and calling out for his mother.
The boy had been missing since Tuesday, when he didnt come inside with the other children hed been playing with at his grandmothers house in Enrul, located about 100 miles southeast of Raleigh.
Caseys aunt, Breanna Hathaway in a Facebook post said her nephew was healthy, smiling and talking following his return late Thursday.
He said he hung out with a bear for two days, she wrote. God sent him a friend to keep him safe. God is a good God. Miracles do happen.

That’s interesting about the bear cub sounds. I was wondering about the hibernating also. The NC DNR says they hibernate like all black bears but will get up if disturbed.
I hope everyone understands that bear is a term used for a big hairy gay guy.
Just saying.
And if this kid was found 120 feet into the woods one has to wonder just how hard these volunteers looked or how they were directed.
There is a lot about this story that screams bullshit.
Black bears aren’t true hibernators...Unless it’s a sow with cubs, they get up and move around a lot in the winter...I’ve seen them in the Smokies when there was 6-8 inches of snow down...
I hope you realize a 3 year old would not have a clue that big, hairy gay guys are called “bears”....
I had my tongue placed firmly in my cheek.
But anyone believing it was angels or Yogi Bear is delusional. Either the kid was grabbed, or the old woman is making this up.
The story that is being told does not pass the most basic tests of believability.
The boy told the story, not the lady (old woman, as you called her)...You don’t know the terrain there and you don’t know how the “search” was organized...
The man who found the child said he was soaked through and scratched and cut from the thick undergrowth...
Law enforcement said there was absolutely no evidence of a crime...
Don’t you think it’s best just knowing the kid is safe????
Good thinking. I would not be surprised at all. Labs are the best dogs in the world and are especially good for children.
I’m 68 and have known labs all my life. My first memory of a lab was when I must have been about 2 and our lab dragged me back away from a pond. He didn’t like us little ones to get near that water.
Growing up I had a dog that was half Red Coon Hound and half Lab......kids could lay on him and put him through all sorts of indignities but watch out if you threatened a family member or happened to be a wannabe "Alpha" dog and try to set up shop on his property....the Red Coon gave him a real feisty fighting spirit.
That is superb! Thanks for sharing...saved it for my wife who turns 69 in May.
Ive organized search drills probably 50 times and participated on at least half a dozen lost child searches over the past forty years.
If the search was done according to Federal or State guidelines, they would have found the kid. No doubt about it.
There is just too much hinky with this storystarting with the search, but including what kind of a moron lets a three year old play next to a wooded area, let alone one with freakin bears?
Im sorry, but you can believe in bears and angels protecting children...but I tend to stick to the truth.
Well then, you tell us all what “really happened”....We are excited to hear what “really happened”....
Oh, I think that the kid was protected by wood nymphs and a dragon.
See how crazy that sounds.
The old woman is trying to scam people. She probably got drunk and lost the kid.
“...The old woman is trying to scam people. She probably got drunk and lost the kid...”
You don’t even know these people...
Wow, you must be Tom Brown......
Ok. Lets just believe the old lady. And the traumatized 3 year old. I am glad the Angels and Bears were there to protect him.
I tire of this.
