Nathan Phillips Any other Marines asking THIS about Nathan Phillips DD-214?

Are there any other Marines asking the same questions about his DD-214 info? Thanks to Don Shipley for using the FOIA to get this info from Nathan Phillips DD-214, but I still have questions. What status was he between the end of 73 in Lincoln and 75 at El Toro? When he changed from USMCR to USMC (3rd MAW is regular Marine Corps, not Reserve)? Why does he NOT have the National Defense Service Medal if he was a Vietnam "ERA" Veteran? PFC is usually awarded after 6 months. Was he always a Private or did he get promoted and lost rank?

The National Defense Service Medal (NDSM) is a decoration presented to recognize all military members who have served in active duty during a declared "national emergency."

I'm pretty sure you didn't have to actually serve in-country to be eligible for NSDM. We called it the fire-watch medal. We were awarded it out of boot camp.

I am assuming wiki is accurate in their identification of eligibility requirements.

you indicated "...Phillip's reporting date for active duty to start training was August 12, 1974."

Wiki says NDSM eligibility for Vietnam era ended August 14, 1974.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Defense_Service_Medal

The National Defense Service Medal (NDSM) is awarded to anyone who serves on active duty in the United States Armed Forces during the above time periods.[4] Reserve Component service during the Korean and Vietnam periods, other than those Reserve Component personnel in a full-time status or on active duty greater than 89 days, did not qualify for award of the NDSM.

It depends on how long he was AWOL for. Less than 30 days, it’s typically handled through NJP (Non-Judicial Punishment). The commanding officer decides your guilt and punishment at a legal hearing. If guilty, you’ll usually lose a stripe, a couple hundred dollars a month for awhile, be restricted to base for 45 days, and get 45 days extra-duty (most of your evenings and weekends are spent cleaning latrines, helping in the mess hall, unloading supply trucks, fun things like that).

If you’re AWOL for 30 days or more, now you’re a “deserter”. That’s handled by court-martial and you can get prison time.

I would say definitely both, mental and a petty criminal. The way he throws his veteran’s status around, I figured he’d washed out of basic, got thrown out on a Section 8, was a problem-child who went to NJP a lot and lived most of his enlistment on Restriction & KP, or was such a loser as a fighting soldier that he got issued a rubber gun and spent his enlistment handing out basketballs at MWR and taking tickets at the base theater. It’s door #2, which is exactly what we all expected.

Does an Indian tribe even claim this loser. He’s probably scamming that system, too. The only difference between this guy and the legion of college Ph.D. Indian-fakers is that this asshat is too stupid to get an undergrad degree much less a doctorate. It wouldn’t surprise me if he got into a rental house with a bunch of students, posed as a student, lived on public Indian assistance (on real or faked credentials), and spent a decade or so drinking and smoking dope with them.

I worked with a guy like that in the early 70’s. Was Air National Guard but failed to attend weekend drills so he was busted and put on active duty. He was absolutely worthless, didn’t do anything and had to be watched constantly. Eventually he was thrown out of the Air Force.

You are correct, I stand down. I thought the eligibility for Vietnam era ended with the date of the signing of the peace agreement which ended hostilities.

Here is a good site by the government publishing office:

https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/CFR-2008-title32-vol3/xml/CFR-2008-title32-vol3-sec578-23.xml

So according to the criteria, the worm does qualify by two days just because he was active for training in a qualifying MOS.

But he uses the words “coming back to the US as a veteran of the Vietnam era.” This is not a lie, just an excuse. And the only way anyone would spit on him is if he wore the uniform with that claim he was as no one would have known him to be a ‘Nam era member. The award, because of the shifting dates, is not understandable to the public.

Sorry for the mistake.

We have, or at least used to have, Remington Rangers. Those daring young persons with the deadly typey fingers of administrative death!

It certainly was an interesting thread.
No mistake...learning process.
I didn’t know the eligibility for NDSM ended before the Vietnam Era ended.
Not sure how that worked.

Phillips is a piece of work. Yet, the left never called him out on any of it.
From his name change to his multiple times lies about being a Vietnam vet to what actually happened with the H.S. kids. They just let it fade away...he’s now under the bus with Christine Blasey Ford.

We’ve (Freepers) already spent way too much time on this guy.

FreeRegards
