I doubt most Americans are sure what the phrase the president used, "off to the races " means.
If in three weeks he and Congress cannot come to agreement then it is off to the races.
Yes, in general terms the government will shutdown yet again. But Iwhat else?

We don’t know that it’s on. The corrupt Dems will do everything in their power to keep it from happening
RGB will die. This whole shutdown thing becomes moot while they fight THAT battle.
The wall becomes a second term fight. There is no way we go into a shutdown with the elections coming.

Why in hell would Trump give the sotu address? Put it on the White House website and that’s that. And don’t verify or confirm the address will be given to congress. Let them find out when the day comes and it shows up on the internet.
The races are like an athletic event that is a spectator sport, a zero-sum game with one winner and everyone else as losers. There is no trying to come to a solution that everyone is happy with, no participation prizes, just I win, you lose. No work can get done on the field while there is a race going on, it just needs to run its course and maybe you will be allowed back on the field after it is over.
The whole town will get seized up with this thing and zero work will get done while all attention is focused like a laser on an attempt by the Democrats to get 100% their way with no quarter given to anyone outside of coastal California who doesn’t see things from the standpoint of a power-mad and nonsensical Hollywood elite.
Think of the focus of Harvey Weinstein put in the service of furthering the agenda of China.
I hope it means the pace picks up. I trust Trump. But I would have liked to see a lot of FBI and DOJ bigshots do the perp walk by now.

“Off to the races” might imply dropping a big load of money onto wall building contracts, and a flurry of activity to quickly build barriers.
