The Raiders were accused of using helium inflated footballs for Ray Guy when he was punting against the Oilers. Bum Phillips said, “hell, Guy could kick it 60 yards if it was filled with water”
Does anyone remember the Patriots pounded the Colts 45 to 7 in that game? It didn’t matter what the ball pressure was, it was complete domination.
Both teams don’t use the same ball.
Not surprised he won. Emotional, agenda driven science seems to rule today. Next year he will scientifically prove that Hillary was robbed, Elizabeth Warren is a squaw and MAGA hats are racist.
There may be some instances where the advantages may be significant. But if you suck, you still suck. And even Brady sucks sometime.
I always preferred the Deflatriots.
I'm fairly sure that it was said during the original controversy that each team brings a certain number of game balls to a game and they have to be inspected by officials before the game.
They use their own approved footballs during a game. Any tampering with pressure would have to have taken place after the balls were inspected by officials.
Each team uses their own footballs- switched on changes of possession.
The place kickers have their own footballs as well.
Since there’s no statistical difference in Brady’s performance before and after Deflategate, the charge is actually that the NFL itself is cheating on Brady’s behalf, given the game ball procedures:

Whether or not Brady cheated I do not know. What I DO know is that he is not the supposed greatest of all time.
He is a system quarterback. Without the system he would be average or maybe a journeyman.
No, he was punished for refusing to give his cell phone to the NFL investigators.
No doubt. Brady continues to win ONLY because he consistently sucks less than his opponents.
If he wanted to do an actual SCIENCE project, he would have demonstrated the impact of the Ideal Gas Law on a football inflated at room temperature, then used outside at the actual game temperature. Of course, then, he would have found the same thing that the NFL found the year after the incident, when they did conduct such tests, and refused to reveal the results.
“Would a QB even notice the difference due to pressure changes amid all the other influences?”
Oh, YES, we would notice. We can throw balls further which are under-inflated.
Who can argue with a controlled experiment using your mom and sister. Thats way more scientific than climate computer models.
Seriously? Why the eff not? Every other sport they do save bowling and croquet. Tennis, basketball, soccer, kickball, baseball, for cripes sake.
Does nobody remember the article by an actual working physicist showing that there was no deflation?
I would expect that a quarterback would have to practice with the underinflated ball in order to throw it exactly where he wanted it to go. Accuracy is more important than distance.
This allegation would never happen again if the NFL provided the balls.
It's a simple, common sense solution.
