I think if he was a “trophy hunter” he would have chosen a bull with bigger/longer tusks.

I won’t go to the unhinged length of threats, but I really don’t see the point in hunting elephant. Is the meat good for consumption?

Every bit of the meat is used by the locals

My uncle spent his life making guns for such hunts, so I can vouch for this

Yes, the meat is good... humans developed a taste for pachyderms since they started hunting mammoth and mastodon.

They hunt elephants because they need to cull the heard. Protecting elephants means huge amounts of land is consumed that other animals would eat. So while they do protect the elephants they also, cull the heard every few years. They often sell the rights of hunting as part of the cull.

They give the meat to the locals who desperately need it. A lot of these elephants are rogues that need to be eliminated because they destroy crops and kill people.

What was he doing in Zimbabwe with a professional hunter that put him in mortal danger and he had to kill the elephants?

He can kill what he wants. But to hide behind the “self-defense” excuse is Bull Cheese.

Man, pal. You went there to shoot a damn elephant. And you did.

Back in the 70’s, African countries paid hunters like White Hunter/author Peter Hathaway Capstick to go out and kill as many elephants as the could, for the very reasons you gave

I have a signed copy of “Death in the Long Grass”

I have a friend who has hunted in Africa many times and has stated the same thing.

I find it interesting that you never hear the Africans complaining about the hunters.

Not correct. I filmed a hunting safari in the bush deep in Tanzania and you avoid confrontation with game you are not hunting because either an animal or a person(s) are injured or killed. We were charged many times out of surprise by elephants, cape buffalo, and hippos.

That is because they have to live with them.

Ever see a water hole after the elephants went through?

It is unusable.

The Elephants are considered pests by the natives. Like giant rats, they trample crops and homes and have no fear of people.

The other day I saw a group of protesters at the city zoo protesting having elephants in captivity. A guy ( who seemed like the leader) tried to hand me a brochure, It blew his mind when I said " Be careful what you wish for, raising them in captivity may be the only hope to save the species, or at least give them a peaceful happy life. "

He just stood there like a deer in the headlights, and said, "you know, you got a good point there"

Doesn’t matter. We need more elephants, they are getting poached left and right.
