I believe the warthog attack was not in Hunt for Red October it was in Red Storm Rising which was Clancy’s second book and involved initial combat in Europe on the ground as well as Naval actions.

I’ll have to confirm. As a Naval Officer in the late 80s/early 90s I enjoyed his books as they were very well researched and especially earlier on focused on the Naval aspects. The great thing about Red Storm Rising was it looked at all aspects fairly equally.

I enjoyed the unique use of the A-10s in the scene your referring to ...whichever book it was in.

He seemed to have a lot of respect for the Russian military. He seemed to understand something that applied then and certainly applies now: Nobody with a brain cell believed all the marxist garbage, they were simply not afraid to speak out against it.

I can save you some research.

In the A-10 attack they boxed the Soviet flagship with flares. The Soviet commander got the message, "If we wanted you dead, you'd be dead."

If it was in Red Storm Rising, they wouldn't have used flares. We were already shooting at the Soviets.

Go Navy, Beat Army.
