This reminds me of the recent drive-by shooting case where a 7 year old black girl was killed, and the mother lied about the perpetrator being a white man. The media was eager to pounce because it fits their favorite narrative of evil racist white men, just as they eagerly pounced on a chance to tell a story about a "racist" white kid "harassing" an American Indian. When the perp was revealed to be black in the murder case, and when the "Black Israelites" were revealed to be the real troublemakers at the protest rally, the media grudgingly retracted their initial reports - and buried the stories because they didn't fit their agendas.
