I’m hoping to add to the flock, but it will probably be mid-summer before I can. I currently have the maximum number of chickens I’m allowed to have.
This summer when the chickens and I are camped out at my farm, then I’ll get more chickens, and possibly some turkeys.
Those baby chicks sure are tempting, though!
I miss raising chicks. I had a brooder in the walk-up attic at my old house. It was just a perfect spot - sunny and warm and out of the way. I’d do 50 at a time; some to sell and some for egg production.
The Labs and the Basset followed me up every morning and evening to check on them, add food, change water and bedding, etc. The chicks imprinted on the dogs and the dogs doted on the chicks as they grew and I never had a grown hen lost to any of the dogs. :)
