So does constant underfunding and personnel reductions. This has been going on since the Clinton administration. Maintenance backlogs, undertained personnel being used as fill ins. Virtual watch and watch manning requirements. Add to this sort of environment key officers with blood in the eye for each other who have so little professionalism as to not be able to stuff the personal dislikes until back on shore. These events were long foretold and sure to come about.

If you think we are alone check how recently the Norwegians effectively lost a frigate as big as a WW2 light cruiser. Both the collision and the incredibly incompetent salving efforts beggar belief.

For a ship to get in that bad a shape, that comes down from above. The division CO, the fleet CO, all have to have failed in their duties. For the radar to be non-functional, for the crew to be that derelict, that has to be systemic, not limited to that one ship.

As one who has spent a lot of time on the bridge and underway on a US Warship, and as one that loves the Navy, this is all depressing as hell.

These officers spending a lot of time away from the bridge with cute lady officers around is no mystery at all. The answer to what they were up to lies under ground in books with stone pages made one million fn years ago! Simple as that.

Some officers should be held accountable with prison terms (sailors died!!!!). I want to emphasize “officers”. They were in charge! Urine on the floor of CIC...…...imagine that! My god! We would have been in the brig in minutes for something like that happening in my days in CIC!

Trump really does need to fire the officers in the chain of command on this situation (all the way up to the halls of the Pentagon) and then see to it that they go to Leavenworth a long time. Otherwise, this shit will continue on and we will lose the next war.....!
