“””When pasting a link into FR, if you press “enter” at the end of the link, it tells FR to make it clickable.

If there is any other HTML code that you added to your post, you’d have to manually enter the code yourself to make the link clickable. :)
***************************************************************************************

How to you enter it manually? This is a problem that I sometimes get when I copy text and a link, the text has html, but then the link isn’t clickable.”””

In the example below between the lines I placed an asterisk inside the “p” (paragraph) tag and replaced the colon between the “http” and // with an asterisk to break the html coding so it would display the underlying text as entered by the poster:

EXAMPLE: (viewed source code)

Hope link works...<*p>

https*//www.foxnews.com/politics/uproar-as-capitol-hill-pharmacist-dishes-on-alzheimers-prescriptions-for-the-powerful <*p>

I can tell it did not work...what to do please?

END OF EXAMPLE

In the example above, the poster formatted their paragraphs but then added the html paragraph tags, while not then coding the link also. The “p” tags could have been left off and the link would have become live (at least on FR)

FR’s software detected the “p” tag as html and then expected everthing that followed to be completely coded. The link was not coded so it was displayed as plain text and not a working link.

There is a warning above the posting box where you type in or paste your reply:

“Your Reply: (HTML auto-detected, see help for more information)”

If you scroll down the page to the bottom you will see this helpful to know information:

“Posting HTML

This forum allows optional use of most HTML tags. If your post does not contain HTML, it will be converted to HTML when posted, retaining paragraphs as typed. This conversion is not performed if you have anything resembling an HTML tag in your text.”

One exception to the above is if you put an emoji in or copy and paste some text that has marks or hashes above a letter(special language fonts), it will crash your format and cause everything to scrunch together. Just one tiny character is enough to cause that.

To make a link live when there is other html in the posting you would type/paste it in this format:

<*a href=”https*//www.foxnews.com/politics/uproar-as-capitol-hill-pharmacist-dishes-on-alzheimers-prescriptions-for-the-powerful”>Whatever you want to name the link or recopy the link here<*/a>

Again, I put an asterisk behind the less than symbols and one in place of the colon “:” behind “https” so everything would display as plain text.

Remove the asterisks, add the colon back to make the link live. No space between the LT symbol and the “a” and “/a”, but leave a space between the “a” and “href”.

If you format your plain text that includes a link, the auto detect will leave your formatting alone but will make the link live. A nice time saving feature for a simple post.

Learn more here:

Below I pasted the link in with no coding as plain text and FR’s software will automatically make it a live link because there is no other working html tags anywhere else in this post that I entered.

First, I want to thank you for your response and attempting to explain the answer to my question. However, you must understand that I don’t know/understand zip about HTML, even though I have printed out and read HTML Sandbox several times. It’s a foreign language to me. Like Chinese almost.

I do know that preview is my friend, and I do normally use it before all but the shortest posts, and then I will use the < p > to make sure and put in paragraphs, because things are so hard to read without paragraphs.

I have then attempted with little success to also get a working linky, looking at the html instructions.

So between what you and ransomnote have given me, maybe next time I’ll be able to get both paragraphs and links.

Once I figure that out, maybe I’ll try again to figure out how to copy and post pics and emojis. Granny is slow, but she is also old, and tomorrow often forgets the HTML tips-that’s why I printed them.

Thanks again.
