Interesting. I think some of my ancestors had been Templars in Jerusalem. Maybe, around 1150? Anyway, they were elevated to some sort of minor royalty in Spain (before it was joined together to become Spain. Obviously, they were out of Jerusalem before it fell to the Muslims. When I watch TV and hear what they were accused of I have to wonder How much is true. After Al the were imprisoned and killed. Who was available to tell their side. Interestingly, while suppressed in France and England, the Templar’s endured in Spain and Portugal, merely changing their name to “Order of Christ.”
Interesting to note that the Templars still exist in Portugal and Spain. Like the Knights of Malta they are an eeliomonsenary organization now, the military wing having been absorbed into their militaries, but there nonetheless
