Haverhill High School is under fire after assigning history students a controversial homework project asking if President Trump has characteristics of a fascist.
I support the President, said parent Dave Prescott. I support a lot of the things he does. And for them to talk about fascism, in regards to the president, I just think this isnt what Im sending my kids to school for.
In a letter to parents, Haverhill High School Principal Glenn Burns said, We missed the mark.
On Thursday, parents expressed mixed emotions to WBZ about that homework assignment.
If you want to bring up an issue, dont bring politics into it, said Prescott.
Parent Bill Galvin thought the assignment provided his child with critical thinking skills. Absolutely not. But in the same token, having opinions is part of America, Galvin said.
Meanwhile, teachers and students at Haverhill High School are looking forward to returning to their normal routine.
A statement from Principal Burns reads in a part: We will continue to provide our scholars opportunities to debate and engage in controversial topics because this is at the heart of how positive change and innovation happens. We will take better notice of the development and delivery of lessons to make sure that the outcomes of the assignment are not skewed by the prompts of the lesson.
This means they have to allow someone to argue that he’s not a fascist.
I didn’t think they’d do that.
How about adding a topic about Obama too.
Did the school ever have students debate whether President Obama was a follower and advocate of Marxism?
Is Barack Hussein Obama a Muslim and/or Marxist?
Exactly. How about if the assignment was Does Barack Hussein Obama have the characteristics of a Fascist? How would the supportive parents react??
End public education.
That’s kind of sick and funny at the same time. It’s the establishment Republicans that are Fascist. They only like government running things if it is done through business entities where the owners and leaders make obscene profits. President Trump is of the ilk that would have the government not involved at all in things that aren’t Constitutional.
In my opinion, a better critical thinking exercise would have been to describe how the Trump administration both does and does not appear to be Fascist (using the dictionary definition of fascist). Require facts to support both sides.
Should be used in similar context for other political models such as Marxist, republic, democracy, etc.

Even democrats never believed Barack Hussein’s claims that he was Christian.
Please contact your child’s teacher asking them to debate whether Obama was our first gay President or Michelle our first male first lady!!
The question should be whether Haverhill High School is a commie schithole led by hopefully-soon-ex-Principal Glenn “Bolshevik” Burns.
High schoolers don’t even know about the collectivist tenets of fascism being diametrically opposite to free capitalism.
In rebuttal, I would compare and contrast Trump with Obama.
The did in the 60’s the flower children killed it.
The Democrats embody fascism but they don’t embrace the name, only the philosophy.
I would have my kid answer in one word, “No”
I think this is an excellent debate topic for a high school civics class. President Trump is being called every name in the book, except for communist or Marxist. For some reason, they are not calling him those. This forces students to research and define fascism, and then to research and define the Trump presidency. If this debate is done in a scholarly fashion with an honest moderator, this could be the best inoculation these young people could get against the rabid TDS they will encounter in college!
