Dems to use Mueller probe as cudgel against Barr
Democrats want Trump’s nominee for attorney general to assure them he won’t interfere in the special counsel’s investigation.
Attorney general nominee William Barr may have to recuse himself from special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, activists and attorneys say, pointing to at least two arguments that he cannot impartially supervise Mueller.
The arguments indicate pressure for recusal may come from both sides of the aisle: Democrats are concerned that Barr prejudged the Mueller investigation in a 20-page memo written in June.
President Trump’s pick for attorney general, William Barr, was critical of the Mueller investigation in a memo to the Justice Department earlier this year, describing the inquiry into possible obstruction of justice by the president “fatally misconceived,” the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday. In the June 8th memo, Barr couched his thoughts as a “former official” whose “views may be useful,” but, now, as the former attorney general at the tail end of the George H.W. Bush presidency is set to again take over the Justice Department, and likely the Mueller investigation as well, those views could decide the future course of the Russia investigation

Trump better nip this in the bud. He needs to ask Barr if he is going to recuse himself, and if he is, then Trump needs to pull the nomination.
