Column: Saban endures most humiliating loss of Bama career
AP ^ | January 8, 2018 | Paul Newberry

By the time the fourth quarter rolled around, Nick Saban knew his seventh national title would not come on this night. He stalked the Alabama sideline as he always does, barking into his headset and at anyone within earshot.

There was nothing he could do. The greatest coach in college football history watched his team get outplayed, out-lucked — and, yes, outcoached. "I just had a feeling that I didn't do a very good job," Saban said. "I never really ever got comfortable with what we needed to do to win this game."

The entire State of Alabama will be like a COPS episode the next 2 weeks.

I just hope Tua’s abusive dad doesn’t beat the crap out of him. I hope Saban has had a heart to heart with that moron father.

Saban said. “I never really ever got comfortable with what we needed to do to win this game.”

...

Translation. Clemson is a really good team and deserved to win. Saban wasn’t surprised. When he went for it on fourth down in the first half from deep in his own territory I knew that he knew he was in trouble.

I don’t think Alabama choked.

Saban will probably get his licks in after the father is done. That guy is a short fused Ahole.

They did make some great catches. I don’t know if Lawrence helped by giving them a soft pass or putting it in the right place, but they were great catches. Lawrence also seems to pick out his targets quickly.

Who cares Yet here you are, along with your 'indifference'.

Your retort is an oldie but a goodie.

The Tide got rolled alright. Clemson made Alabama look like Notre Dame. The first clue should had been the overwhelming size and speed of Clemson.

"I’m not even suggesting that they play the same caliber football as the SEC. I just have no idea why they would sign up for a deal that is not in their financial, academic, or overall best interest."

Here's another interesting tidbit for you. Do you see any Big 12 or Pac 12 team being in the conference championship in the near future? I don't. When you look at the youth of the QBs, how stacked the teams are, I see a repeat of this championship game next year and possibly the year after.

You are correct. Dabo picked up on Alabama's weakness by watching the Oklahoma game. Plus Clemson is huge and fast.

A football game happened?

"I just had a feeling that I didn't do a very good job," Saban said.

You didn't Coach. When you sat on the ball with 40 secs left in the half, two time outs and one of the best quarterbacks to ever wear Crimson is the exact moment you gave up.

After Alabama led 28-0, Oklahoma knocked the tar out of Alabama 34-17 the rest of the game (or 34-23 for bammies who say they could have scored from the 6). This lowered Alabama’s confidence going in the final. The combined score for both games after the 28-0 was 78-33.

Actually, I think Alabama was, on average, bigger. But Clemson was faster, no doubt about it. And, I think Clemson had better all-around ATHLETES.

I was not a Clemson fan, and in fact I disliked Clemson, and I despised its coach, Dabo Swinney. My disdain of Swinney stems from some snarky comments he made a couple years ago after a win. I guess perhaps he has matured, because he was all class last night.

I was VERY impressed with Clemson last night. Clemson should be the odds-on #1 pre-season pick for 2019.

Sabin with 218 wins ranks 56th in coaches with over 200 career wins.
But far from the top winner at 489 wins.
