Jemima Packington, 63, is the world’s only Asparamancer and claims she can peer into the future by tossing the veg in the air and interpreting how the spears land. She predicts that 2019 will see that extreme temperature will become a norm and well-known British businesses will fold.

She also says that despite a global recession, fears over the impact Brexit will have on the British economy will be largely unfounded. Jemima believes the reality TV show Big Brother will also return to our screens after it aired its final series in November. She also says it will be a year of Oscar success for A Star Is Born and British actors.(snip)

‘I am usually about 75-90 per cent accurate with my predictions and 2018 was about 77 per cent correct. I go through my predictions each year and think: ‘Yep, that’s happened, yep, that’s happened.

They grow a lot of asparagus around here (SE WA State) and they must have the diseases under control because I never hear about them. Pretty much all picked by migrants at 5 in the morning.

Damn Fine Cherry Pie!

Too bad we can’t replace the buffoons and criminals in the current FBI with Agent Cooper and Lew Erskine.

I resemble that comment. This is not feigned outrage.

She predicts that 2019 will see that extreme temperature will become a norm

No duh.

Not HOT, or COLD, but EXTREME.

Hard to miss.

and well-known British businesses will fold.

No duh.

Not WHICH business, nor HOW WELL KNOWN, but some British 'well known' businesses.

Hard to miss.

I predict that she has at least 10 cats in her home. My prediction has to be at least 90% accurate.
And I didn’t need asparagus for my prediction.

A totally off-topic asparagus question.

I had two asparagus patches, planted at the same time, about 50 feet apart, rootstock from the same source.

Thrived for ten plus years.

Both came up very sparsely one year and I did NOT cut it.

The next year ZERO in one patch and only a few in the other.
I LET THE RASPBERRIES HAVE THE GROUND IN ONE PATCH, and carefully hand tilled the other hoping the roots had some life?

About four years later about a dozen nice size vigorous shoots mixed in the raspberries, the other site is bald and I quit turn the soil there.

We use near ZERO chemicals in the garden, but use the usual three-step stuff on the nearby lawn.

Previously, we had a nice patch over twenty years, I accidentally mowed it one year it never returned.(We take down the garden fences for the winter to till in the spring.

Is my garden now cursed for asparagus? Forever?
