Maybe its a good time to repaint some Coast guard ship hulls! Send the idle crews to patrol the shoreline along the Rio Grande. (Which is sort of an Inland Waterway which could be considered in a very loose sense to fall under USCG jurisdiction.) One of their responsibilities is to interdict illegal immigrants attempting to illegally enter the US! But no, we are sending some Corpsmen.

While we're at it--how about taking a big chunk of the prevented drug money and building a good sized canal up the Rio Grande to El Paso?

Incorporate a huge concrete wall into the canal design--if sight of the other side is an issue, put solar powered cameras on the top of the wall.
