Thanks for that “basement office” post, for Romney. I had read that Romney took over Orin Hatch’s office, and mistakenly presumed Hatch had earned a nice one after 40 years. Not sure.
When I was working in the Senate in the 80s, Senate offices were assigned strictly by seniority, and good ones much coveted. Party affiliation didn’t even play a part. Don’t know what the system is now, but I would guess it is the same.
