Helium Retention in Zircons Demonstrates a Young Earth
BY VERNON R. CUPPS, PH.D. * | FRIDAY, DECEMBER 28, 2018
Zircons are tiny crystals of zirconium silicate (ZrSiO4) that originate in igneous rock, which forms when volcanic magma cools. Its a very stable mineral that melts at 2550°C. Zircon is harder than quartz and almost as hard as diamond. Because of these characteristics, zircon is the mineral most frequently used in various radioisotope dating methods for dating rocks assumed to be at least a few hundred million years old. Its ability to retain impurities within its crystal lattice is very important in establishing the validity of these dating methods.

[[Whats this about believ(ing) science? Real science should be (though frequently is not) a dispassionate, objective search for the truth; an effort to simply discern facts.]]
Aristotle proposed that matter consisted of various mixtures of “Fire, Earth, Air and Water.” Aristotle’s reputation kept that theory alive for a couple millennia.
Then, the inductive method was proposed; it became the foundation for the method of science. Modern Chemistry began about the time of the American Revolution when Dalton proposed the “hard sphere model” for each different element. That explained a lot.
Then, Rutherford presented data that the atom was mostly empty space; hence, the nucleus. Bohr suggested the electrons moved in orbits which was very useful to explain a number of observations. Next was the orbital theory that explained more observations. Today, quantum theory is so mathematical that it is hard to propose a model that we could look at and understand.
The inductive logic does not have absolute certainty in its theories because theories change as new observations require a theory to be modified. Theories cannot be absolutely proven. Thus, the chemist must *believe* the atomic model of matter as he/she does research. I wonder, when I approach the Pearly Gates if the Lord will lean over and whisper, “That atomic theory of yours, ALL WRONG.”
So I asked if he would give me the citation so that I could read the article for myself. He would not! I walked out. It was not a Science seminar, it was a political/religious seminar. In the three, four, five decades since, no hint of such an idea has surfaced.
ICR — use a grain of salt; a BIG grain of salt.
Thanks FRiend. When we hear “settled science” we know that it —— isn’t!
If I missed your point, I do apologize.
I’m a young-earth Christian myself. My own belief is that science per se is past its golden age. Technology or applied science is what’s happening now.
Actual science cannot be separated from philosophy, which cannot be separated from religion. Science that denies my Savior is rejected, no matter what the consequences are for me.
How does a macro-evolutionist know anything that he/she holds to be true (as a belief): neither observable nor replicable.
My first-year Biology (for Majors) professor’s favorite phrase: “Given time and chance, we are confident that...”
Those are the words of faith, not science.
I used to read a lot of that kind of stuff years ago, in the BI epoch, Before the Internet.
You’ll find some of that history of Christian thought in books dealing with Christian apologetics. I couldn’t tell you which one offhand, it’s been awhile and I read a bunch of them.
And of course I did read Plato’s Republic, or at least a lot of it. In Book 10 of the Republic (it’s like a chapter) you’ll find Socrates arguing for the existence of an immortal human soul, that our greatest reward is in the afterlife if we have lived virtuously, that the gods will punish the wicked. Familiar stuff to the Western mind, although it also has reincarnation.
“Ergo the current Pope and his nutty climate change fixation.”
Yup. And if Francis the Red starts arguing that Scripture demands it and threatens to anathematize every Climate Denying Heretic he will have gone Full Galileo on all of us.
“How do you know that?”
‘A priori knowledge, in Western philosophy since the time of Immanuel Kant, knowledge that is independent of all particular experiences, as opposed to a posteriori knowledge, which derives from experience’
Eternal existence is a definition basic to the description of God in western theology, found throughout the books of the Bible.
Yet you believe that morning and evening (day and night) were created before the sun ...
Excuse me. I am agnostic about the age of the earth.
About the existence of God and His Creation, I am certain. Likewise, I have no doubt that naturalistic abiogenesis and macro-evolution theories are bad jokes. Neither can happen nor did happen.
No one posits that in the beginning, there was NOTHING. SOMETHING had to exist forever in the past, even though that concept is unfathomable for humans.
The most fascinating verse in the Bible is, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was WITH God, and the Word was God.”
How did John KNOW that underlying the existence of all life is an information code? Truly wondrous to ponder!
” Likewise, I have no doubt that naturalistic abiogenesis and macro-evolution theories are bad jokes. Neither can happen nor did happen.”
You doubt the power of God!
“No one posits that in the beginning, there was NOTHING. SOMETHING had to exist forever in the past, even though that concept is unfathomable for humans.
The most fascinating verse in the Bible is, In the beginning .... “
Before the Beginning, there was NOTHING!
Nothing...but God
“Excuse me. I am agnostic about the age of the earth.”
I was not posting about the age of the earth. Are you agnostic about the Word of God?
LOL! No, there was GOD!
I fully got your point. God may well cause light without the sun. After all, He is God. More interesting to me is the fact that Genesis correctly states that the first humans were created as adults, (which if you reject the absurdity of Darwinism, had to be true).
“Genesis correctly states that the first humans were created as adults ...”
Not really.
So, they were born to whom, or what?
You evaded ...
Like Pharaoh, your heart is hardened to Truth. Scientists are full of it up to their ears. As Lincoln said, you can’t fool all the people all the time. I refuse to be a dupe. I demand experimental evidence, before I accept anything as more than speculation.
OK, TG, which came first, muscles, bones, tendons, ligaments? And what good are any of them unless all are present at once? You must believe that all independently evolved contemporaneously if evolution is to be accepted. You are smarter than that.
“I demand experimental evidence, before I accept anything as more than speculation.”
LOL. From the dude that believes Adam was seated as an adult because his Sunday school teacher said so.
