Daryl Dragon, the hat-wearing musician familiar to 1970s music fans as half of the bestselling duo the Captain & Tennille, died Tuesday in Prescott, Arizona at age 76.

Dragon’s ex-wife, Toni Tennille, “was with him as he took his last breath,” said Harlon Boll, a spokesperson for the singer. In a statement, Tennille said, “He was a brilliant musician with many friends who loved him greatly. I was at my most creative in my life when I was with him.”

Dragon died of renal failure, according to Boll.

You could not get away from that song back in the summer of 1975. It played on every Top 40 station just about every hour.

Toni was especially hot looking in that video.

I heard they got divorced because his health insurance was better as an unmarried.

First time I saw a Super Dave skit. Thirty years later and I'm still cracking up laughing!

"Soopah Dave, you want the boru?" LOL

His eyes remind me of a dog I had when I was eating a steak.

Haha! I understand now why he wore the sunglasses.

That is funny.

Super Dave - always getting screwed up. Funny guy. Apparently Albert Brooks’ brother - these guys have got to be Jewish. Jews are really the best comedians. I don’t know - they get stuff better than most. (Jerry Lewis especially in in his early years, Marx Bros, Seinfeld, etc.)

His dad was a composer and conductor. Her dad sand with Bing Crosby. Her mom was a TV host. Her sisters were her backup singers. Nice family endeavor.

Yeah. That kind of focus can be a blessing in many ways, like being creative or following a scientific vision, but maybe not so much in relating to people.

I think it says a lot about both of them that they still loved each other even after they divorced. She was with him at the end it appears.

And just think .. the lyrics were actually intelligible and not a ho in sight !

We were lucky to be alive back then, even as the years roll by too fast today.

The lovely “Song of Joy”, which was the closing theme for their TV series:

“You’ll say, yes but the ...”

How do you know what I would say, you don’t know me at all! You sound pretty arrogant and condescending. Sounds to me like you were the problem in your marriage not your wife. One post to you and you think you can lecture me and presume what I’m going to say next. I’m done talking to you.

“Yeah, 39 years and she still expected him to change? Why didn’t she marry the man she wanted him to be, in the first place?”

I think she was very patient. But I’m assuming she’s telling the truth and that perhaps he had a condition I’m thinking of more people are unable to have any empathy or involvement with another person. Yet they seem to want have relationships and pretend to be involved and loving To get the person.

If this isn’t the case then perhaps it was just an excuse.

That’s exactly what I was thinking of, that I was surprised she would put up with for so long if that was what he had.

Steve Martin has it? Or is just withdrawn? I guess we would never know. Seemed so opposite of his stage presence though.

Yes...Lost in America was hilarious.

Albert Einstein changed his name to Brooks...for obvious reasons.

“Her sisters were her backup singers.”

One of their albums has a pretty little song,” Circles”, and I think her sister does the backup. Nice pure voice.

Yes, that was a golden age in music and we were very lucky to have lived it. The pop music scene of today has been taken over by angry rappers or slutty bimbos.

Thanks to YouTube, I am re-living those golden years. Just this past weekend, I discovered this rather amazing concert by Linda Ronstadt from 1976. The talent was just unbelievable. Not only Linda's soaring voice but the guitar/keyboard work of Andrew Gold (who would have a big hit "Lonely Boy" the very next year on his own). Although the lighting was rather poor in the video, Linda's beauty shone right through (and the audio is superb).

But you digged up a nice gem with that "Love Will Keep Us Together" video. Now I'm torn between Linda and Toni - both were amazingly beautiful during the mid 70s.

And they didn't have to be half-naked and put diamonds in their belly buttons.

They got divorced because Obamacare made their health care coverage unaffordable as a married couple.
