You realize that its said everyday, by millions of American people. And its not generally meant as “I hate you”. It was a word that was on regular prime time TV from the 1960s to the 1980s. Its most common usage was a black version of “white Trash” although it could mean just a black person. It has been played on regular radio in the 60’s and 70’s and still is common on urban stations. In the black community you will commonly hear mothers call there children using the N-word.
I agree that there is nothing conservative about the word or its use. But liberals seem to be able to use the word with little affect. While conservatives will lose their jobs for ever uttering the word regardless of context.
When I was a little kid, I used that word one day [ok, I was a brat.]. The cleaning lady from next door, who lived in a little house in back of the big one, sat my brother and me down on our back steps and explained how that word made her and others feel. I never used it again [that I can recall] and felt very uncomfortable when I heard others do so.
It had such an effect on me that she was kind and she told it like it was. Maybe more people should have a neighbor like her.
