PEPSICO uses a "flavor enhancer" based on a line of aborted fetal cells... "based on" is a little strong here. According to the article, SENOMYX has bioengineered a kidney cell to work as a taste receptor. They were looking for a chemical that would make sugar taste sweeter, so they could use less of it. Instead of using human testers, they used the bioengineered taste receptor to test thousands of chemicals as sweetness enhancers. Once they found such a chemical, presumably they then tested it on human subjects (assuming they knew already that it was safe to do so).
The kidney cell line has been around for decades. They just keep reproducing it. The moral issue is that the original cell came from a human fetus aborted decades ago.

(Do not buy into hype or urgency, they're trying to sell foolishness.)

Very Macabre. Glad I gave up soda years ago, along with most other processed foods.
