Never much of a football fan, so I’m wondering what has changed to make QB’s of recent so statistically superior to those who played of yesteryear? Maybe going as far back to the Unitas, Starr, Namath era.

Really a good question, because I remember watching Unitas play, and he was a superb QB. Mahones just stands out among his contemporaries, for 2 reasons, his young age of 23 and his mobility combined with throwing accuracy.

The old timers were not known for mobility except for Fran Tarkenton.

Used to be 14 games, and defense had many fewer rules. Note that using modern qb stat analysis, the great qbs of the past rank quite well.
