really enjoy that movie. But it makes me think of the current state of “mental health”. Would today’s professionals encourage Teddy’s delusion that he is Teddy Roosevelt and insist that everyone address him as Mr President?
———————————————————

LOL! Today’s mental health professionals insist we call men women and women men all to confirm their delusion. So the answer would be yes. Yes, they would

> There is no such thing as funny these days. <

Funny is now verboten! Because anything funny is guaranteed to offend some delicate snowflake somewhere. So it’s best to play it safe, and just stick to dull PC themes.

Good post. ‘My Cousin Vinny’ is one film I could watch over and over again. Lots of great dialog. And it holds up very well over time.

Over the holidays we had millennial visitors. They were watching some show about a young woman that is searching for a missing girl she vaguely knew in high school. My visitors were laughing hysterically at the antics in this show which were mostly based upon neurotic behavior. I didn’t get it in the least. Wasn’t funny to me.

59. Toni Erdmann (Maren Ade, 2016)

… And I guess they give affirmative action to German-language movies, since the Germans have no sense of humor.

Seriously, though, there have been a few German comedies that were funnier than this Teutonic klunker.

27. The Apartment (Billy Wilder, 1960)

Was this really a comedy? Very depressing subject matter.

Also, I see no Judd Apatow. I would have thought that was a good thing, but if you're going to put Borat on the list, there's probably room for Apatow on it as well.

Was watching the tv many years ago, when The Gods Must Be Crazy was on. My husband was working at the computer but he had to come and see why I was laughing hysterically.

That was The Ghost Breakers, 1940. It was when the Democrats were getting ready to give FDR a third term.

George Romero invented the conventions and rules of the modern zombie film. Before that, zombies weren't eating brains and getting killed with blows to the head. They were just the poor unfortunate undead who acted like they were hypnotized, and just sort of tromped or stumbled or milled around aimlessly.

Two that come immediately to my mind (that are not on the list):

Dumb and Dumber (1994 - Farrelly Brothers); &

Mystery Men (1999 - Neil Cuthbert)

It says something that only two of the top 50 were made after the year 2000, and only one of the top 40 was made after 2000. Only six of the 50 were made since 1994. Humor, like rock ‘n’ roll, is dying. I strongly disagree that “Spinal Tap” is the ninth best, but I’ll put in a good word for number 50 “The King of Comedy,” despite De Niro’s role.

Laurel & Hardy #1. “The Music Box” where they move a large piano down a long flight of steps.

I'll second that. The cherry-on-top of that clip IMHO is the O'Henry nature of the ending.
