Conservative writer for the Federalist and frequent guest on Fox News has passed away at 26 from the Swine Flu.
Makes sense. Thanks.
Very tragic news. RIP
RIP Sweet Child.......prayers up for the family.....;(
I took a quick look at mortality tables.
The odds of a 26 year old woman dying of influenza is roughly 1 in 100,000.
I think we’re owed a cause that’s a bit more credible.
Was it the flu or Meningitis? Important to know - we have to be looking out for everyone
I think the meningitis was confirmed this evening. Strange that she had the swine flu & meningitis though.
Looks to be she had both.
Ping.
Notice what the NIH study found regarding excess mortality rates for that H1N1 flu:
"The age profile of excess mortality risk in fall 1918 was characterized by a maximum among infants, a minimum at ages 910 years, a maximum at ages 2426 years, and a second minimum at ages 5659 years. "
The mortality rate for 24-26 yr olds was 80 per 10,000, not the 1 per 100,000 in the table BobL found. I suspect that BobL was looking at a table for non-hybrid flu.
Bre Payton was in the highest risk cohort for dying from H1N1

Let’s be fair here. I also saw the 80 number, and it’s per 100,000, not 10,000 and that includes things like gun shots, suicide, drug ODs, Cancer, accidents, and everything else. As to “1” number, that said “Influenza”, so I don’t know what it includes. If 1 in 125 women (which is 80 per 10,000) in that age group were dropping dead every year, there would be more hype about it than there was even about AIDS.
But, as it is, there’s an article saying that it may have been a flu shot. It’s probably a good idea for well-known conservatives to start getting flu shots in other countries, or at least under different names if here.
Something’s not right here...
The 80 per 10,000 number is in the NIH paper. It's "influenza-attributable excess mortality in fall 1918" after adjusting for baseline mortality:
"Crude rates of mortality due to respiratory conditions displayed a W shape in fall 1918, peaking in infants, young adults, and seniors. We subtracted baseline mortality in prepandemic years to obtain influenza-attributable excess mortality in fall 1918. The highest rates of influenza-related excess mortality were found in infants < 1 year old. Three breakpoints were identified in the age-specific mortality curve: a minimum, at age 9.7 years (1908 birth cohort), with a rate of 15 deaths per 10 000; a maximum, at age 25.6 years (1892 birth cohort), with a rate of 80 deaths per 10 000;

Sorry, but it’s not 1918, and if this is the start of another pandemic, I’ll apologize.
But if it’s not, I would like to know what the REAL cause of death is for her, as I very much doubt that she just happened to be the one in 100,000 picked to die from it.
“Sorry, but its not 1918, and if this is the start of another pandemic, Ill apologize.”
The 1918 flu was the H1N1 strain. It’s a swine flu variant that is particularly dangerous to 26 yr old adults because of their strong immune response.
H1N1 is the flu strain that Bre Payton was diagnosed with.
And at 26 she was in the most at risk age cohort for H1N1 mortality.
That doesn’t mean that there will be a pandemic. There was no vaccine in 1918 to break the chain of transmission. There is now. The vaccine for the 2018 season includes H1N1, H3N2, and two other strains.
Ghastly. RIP. Horrible.
And that means the h1n1 is back locally, wasnt she is San Diego?
When H1N1 was here the last time, about 8 or so years ago, I caught it and on day 3 had double pneumonia and trouble inhaling and exhaling. I have never been sicker in my entire life. I felt I didnt have long to live if I didnt get help ASAP. They put me on strong antibiotics and I recovered. I immediately learned about vitamin d and have never been deficient in it since then. That next year I titrated doses and kept going back in for blood D levels to get to where I could dose myself to therapeutic levels. I no longer have fear of the flu because I wont get those worst cases.
I wish the same for you. Flu shot or not. Young, or old. Take enough vitamin d all season so that your levels are over 60 in your bloodstream. This poor woman Id bet was deficient.
I have a son that age. So horrible.
Worse, GEORGE SOROS IS STILL ALIVE
Im sure this all makes sense to Gd but it sure does not to us.
Its the cytokine storm that kills you - especially the immune-strong - from the flu. Its like your lungs drown from your own immune system overreacting.
I have not heard the H1N1 is back. And san Diego is very close to here. Heartbreaking for her and her family.
The vaccine for the 2018 season includes H1N1, H3N2, and two other strains.
Wonder if Bre had a flu shot.
I’m also told that a certain conservative committed suicide by shooting themselves twice in the head (can’t remember the name), along with many other interesting demises.
Sorry you caught it. It seems to be back this year. She was in San Diego.
