The only actors who who have Obamacare are those who fail to earn $17,340 during a year. Of course that makes Hollywood hypocrites for not providing health insurance for its entire membership.
Wow. I was under the impression that medical insurance was available to all actors and actresses who were paid up on their SAG dues.
Ping.
So, what’s it take to join SAG? Do you have to be an actor/actress, or are all of the producers, diectors, writers, and crew eligible? Just curious.
Yeah that’s what I thought. I checked on twitter and there were actors saying they needed to get work to keep their health insurance for the year.
“Wow. I was under the impression that medical insurance was available to all actors and actresses who were paid up on their SAG dues.”
Not true. Even our effing unions I had to join (more coerced than join) includes the producers Guild, director’s guild, writers guild etc, there is NO Obamatardcare. SAG wont help anyone who have a serious medical condition and will ‘refer’ you to Kaiser, most of the time. They just want their dues and hope you dont call back...
I suppose you could join SAG and create a film company, an S-Corporation, and make a short video of yourself. Lend your corporation $20,000, pay yourself a salary of $18,000 for acting in the film, for which the corporation would also pay $1,377 in payroll taxes, and you’d also pay FICA and Med tax of that amount. You’re out of pocket $2754, which isn’t really gone, it’s going into your eventual social security benefit.
The loss from the corporation offsets your wage income, so there’s no income tax.
You would then be able to apply for the SAG health insurance benefit.
there was an article in paper by the AP this morning talking about ‘lying people’ and they had a big picture of trump, but no picture of obama who told one of the biggest whoppers of all time ‘if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor’
Answer to the trivia question “How in the heck did Ian Ziering end up in that Sharknado movie?”
His wife was pregnant and he had not yet earned the minimum amount to qualify for coverage. The script was on the table and his wife told him he had to go to work.
FAG has a plan too.
That probably explains why a lot of actors take roles in bad projects.
That’s the Film Actors Guild.
Werfwess as Arec Bawwin.
So, whats it take to join SAG?
Answer: You apply on a producers couch.... : )
