LAKEWOOD, Colo. (KDVR/FOX 13) - Porch pirates are a common trend during the holidays, but one Colorado woman took matters into her own hands and refused to become a victim.
Renee Abeyta was at her Lakewood home doing chores Wednesday afternoon when she received a notification from her Ring home surveillance system that someone was at her front door. She looked but didn't see anyone. Then, she searched through the recordings her camera captured, and saw an unknown woman grab a package from the front porch, and walk away.
Abeyta walked outside and yelled, Hey! as she saw the woman crossing the street.
I thought, No way this is happening to me, she explained to KDVR. She ended up confronting the woman and captured it all on cell phone video. Abeyta asked the alleged porch pirate for her name and if she stole something.
Give it! Im gonna (expletive) call the police! I got you on camera (expletive), Abeyta is heard saying on video.
Leave me alone lady. I didnt take anything.
Yes, you did. I saw you!
Abeyta ended up chasing her down for about a minute, yelling -- along with a string of some expletives-- before the suspect finally stopped in her tracks. The suspect handed the stolen package -- which contained a Crock Pot cover -- to Abeyta.
Im sorry, the woman said.
Abeyta hopes that the woman doesnt do it again. She shared video of the confrontation on her Facebook page. She explained that she couldn't believe she went after the woman, but also felt that the suspect shouldn't get away with it in the middle of the day.
Hopefully, that girl and other people dont steal stuff, she said, because its Christmas and, I mean, these are presents for people.
“This tendency of people expecting the best out of others is ridiculous, but I guess theyve swallowed the *goodness of man* pablum that is passed offthese days and that we all need to be *nice* as if that somehow shows moral superiority.”
That also goes for the two young girls backpacking in Morocco and those two bicyclists in Tajikistan (or whichever “stan” it was).
Merry Christmas
My sister and I talk a lot about the new world our kids and grandkids are going to have.
Through time, people have had the same lament (”Just look at Elvis swivel his hips.”) but this time it really is different:
* Technology is changing the way people think, write and socially interact
* Cheap, widely available drugs are killing young people and thoroughly destroying families and entire towns
* Loss of faith, God, and the community bond of churches
* Rise of socialism and widespread love of totalitarianism
* Complete conversion of Democrat party into communists
* Global Islamic jihad
* Rich and powerful China
* “Browning” of America (Democrat importation of voters to hold power)
* Complete failure of public education and all schools having become leftist indoctrination centers
We’re in a day where good is called evil and evil good.
Im surprised that the enemedia didnt portray this as Trumps fault.
The Trump shutdown is so bad that people are stealing crock pot lids!
That's what I was thinking about the homeowner, not the perp.
Even if the package contained something valuable, is it worth the potential risk to life and limb to chase down someone whacked enough to steal a package off her doorstep in broad daylight?
That’s a cheery thought. They’re also likely (if they haven’t already) to team up with the Mexican drug cartels to see that we get a generous supply up here.
Another great example.
Merry Christmas!
