It is my son’s dog but he cannot have it in his home at this time. It is a country dog and son lives in city, no yard, and works 12 to 14 hours a day.

Son cannot face it.

Turns me into the monster that wants to kill his dog.

No, you are not a monster. But it’s your sons responsibility to decide. You tell him that he was the beneficiary of the dogs love and loyalty and making that decision is the price that is paid. You can help him out, but it’s his responsibility to take care of this.

You need to rent the movie A Dogs Purpose. Tell your son being busy is no excuse. If the dog is going to be put down, it’s your sons arms that need to be around him. Not yours

Don’t want to offend, but you’re allowing your son to be very selfish. Take the dog to HIS home, and leave it there for him to deal with it. He’ll probably be furious, but if he’s any kind of man, he’ll soon see the best thing for the dog is to be put down. And might I say, he sure has a nerve!
