You’re a better man than me. One hint isn’t enough to penetrate my thick head.
This one got my attention though. Probably because it was already a little bit on my mind.
Mrs. Augie likes the sparkly stuff, so she gets that too. It’s hard on the wallet, but it makes her happy, and when she’s happy I’m happy.
I do very basic lemonade: 2 cups sugar, 2 cups lemon juice, 3 quarts water. You can flavor it with any herbal syrup (lavender and mint are delicious, basil is oddly appealing, and I may try borage this year to be all sophisticated and stuff).
For herbal syrups, I use 2 tablespoons of dried or 1 cup fresh herbs with a cup of water and a cup of sugar, all boiled together for a couple of minutes. Strain the herbs out and substitute the syrup for one cup of sugar. I have experimented with fresh and dried petals for rose syrup, but haven’t found a strong enough flavor yet. I’d probably need heirloom roses bred for scent, and very few people are going to let me have those to cook with. DARN, I guess I’ll have to grow ‘em myself...in the meantime, I am going to experiment with more flavored mints.
Nice pic. I’m going to try Italian Parsley. Other parsley type didn’t grow well here-neither do carrots-related family.
Might no have time to do both this spring/summer. I think we will put some nice windows on the south side of the shed. We are going to draw up a one bedroom apartment plan, so at some point we could convert it to a rental.
Need to have the plan for some of the basement plumbing etc.
I know that I’d love a sun room off the house. We will also put in a woodstove and we’ll be able to grow more fresh stuff in the winter too.
Thanks for recipe. I’m thinking that some rose hips from my Rosa Rugosa might be nice to use too.
Two more seed catalogs arrived today.
Gurney’s and Territorial Seed from Oregon.
We’ve had good luck with Gurney’s in past years.
We got 2 today also. Shumway’s and Jung. Really don’t have much experience with either. We order from Baker’s Creek mostly now - MO. based company from close to my home town area. Also give priority to Stark brothers for plants-another MO. company. LOL
