Once these states (NY, CA, IL, CT, and others) can no longer pay for all of these things they promise and basically collapse under their own weight and contradictions, that could move the pendulum a great deal in our favor.

The problem is that they are as aware of this problem as you are. Their obvious solution is to shift that burden onto the Federal Government and thus, us taxpayers. They have made these attempts in the past and will continue to do so in the future. Their power is the size of their Congressional Delegations and their continuing moves (California) to make these delegations as blue as possible. Then they can buy their voters onto the Democrat Plantation and keep sinking our formerly-Federal Republic!

I wonder if Trump has it in his sights to shrink the state troughs, like he has the parasitical countries.

The limitation on state tax deductibility in the last tax plan was brilliant.
