Most of these are low supply foods. If an article like this gets traction, the lack of supply drives up the price.
That is why foods have lobbyists...

Whether they are or aren't doesn't change the science and there's plenty of science behind these choices.
It drives the price up so high you stop buying it. We tried Quinoa as a (reportedly) healthy alternative to white rice. We grew to enjoy it and then the price sky rocketed. They tried sob stories of poor third world farmers making their living raising the crop. We rarely buy it any more. My guess is the importers grew greedy.
