People aren’t understanding the real reason the employees stood on the sidelines. If they got involved to help this lady, they would have had been thrown under the bus by nervous McDonald’s executives and fired from their jobs. Then they would have been destroyed on social media and labeled racists.
There’s also the injury possibility. What we have here is a wild mob attacking one person. Had a McDonald’s employee intervened, the mob might have scattered. But then again, it could have then been a mob attacking two people.
A guy I know tried to break up a similar fight about 20 years ago. He still has back pain every single day.
It would have been great had a hero stepped in, John Wayne style. But I really don’t hold it against anyone who didn’t.
I just hope every last employee was on the phone, dialing 911. And someone screaming “The cops are coming!” would have helped too.
McDonalds has had a “don’t resist, don’t escalate” policy for over 30 years. Their lawyers figured out a long time ago that math is bad for the company. And nothing in how the world has changed has made that math better.
